ABOUT EEG
Understanding brain activity.
An electroencephalogram (EEG) is a safe, non-invasive test that records the electrical activity of the brain.
WHAT IS AN EEG?
An EEG (electroencephalogram) measures brain wave activity using small electrodes placed on the scalp. The test is painless and typically takes 30–60 minutes.
EEG recordings are 30–60 minutes long and can be prolonged up to 2 hours upon a physician's request, when additional information is needed.
Brain waves are recorded by a computer and reviewed by a board-certified physician to help evaluate a variety of neurological conditions.
EEG IS USED TO HELP EVALUATE
- Seizures and epilepsy
- Episodes of altered awareness
- Unexplained spells or movements
- Sleep disorders
- Head injuries
